In the summer of 2016 the Seneca College Visual Effects program was made a certified Houdini School (the first year SideFX created the certified process). Judges from DNEG, Pixar and Disney reviewed our curriculum and student work in order to award this certification. This has been reviewed and renewed for 2023-2024.

In today's dynamic entertainment and technology landscape, specialized skills are paramount. Our intensive eight-month, post-graduate Visual Effects for Film and Television program is designed to equip you with the industry-demanded expertise and adaptability to thrive, even in a competitive market. As the VFX field continues to evolve, you may also have opportunities to explore emerging workflows, including the potential applications of AI tools within visual effects pipelines.

As a Houdini-Certified School and training you in industry-standard software like Maya and Nuke, we go beyond basic software skills. This program is a deep dive into the practical workflows of a professional VFX studio. You’ll tackle assignments that directly mirror real-world studio projects, allowing you to build not just technical proficiency, but a high-impact, career-ready portfolio that showcases your artistry and problem-solving abilities to potential employers across various creative industries.

  • 3D Modeling, Texturing, Lighting & Rendering for Production: Develop a strong foundation in the entire 3D pipeline using Maya and Houdini. Master techniques for creating high-quality assets, realistic texturing, cinematic lighting, and efficient rendering workflows for film, television, and online experiences.

  • Advanced 3D Tracking & Camera Solves: Learn the critical skill of accurately integrating digital elements into live-action footage using industry-standard tracking software.

  • Procedural Dynamics & Simulation Expertise with Houdini: Become proficient in Houdini, the leading software for procedural VFX. Master the creation of realistic simulations – from explosions and destruction to fluid dynamics and particle effects – a highly sought-after specialization in VFX and related fields.
