VFT Program-2019/2020
What education did you have before you took the Visual Effects for Film and Television course?
I completed my bachelor‘s degree in Broadcasting and Television at the Communication University of China in 2018. During that time, I took courses about TV and film production and fell in love with the art of film. After that I took a one-year VFX program in Fanshawe College, London, Ontario, where I started to learn VFX skills, such as compositing, 3D modeling, motion graphics and so on. I prepared my demo reel during my first and second semester in Fanshawe as a part of the application for the VFT program in Seneca.
Tell us a bit about your experience at the college.
The life of VFT program student in Seneca was busy and crazy. The program covers basically every field of VFX, including lighting, compositing, modeling, FX, and even Python. The compact school schedule and massive amount of learning material can be overwhelming sometimes. Doing different practices for different courses was sometimes stressful but overall I really enjoyed creating product with the skills and knowledge I learned. Thanks to the talented, professional and experienced faculty, who not only inspired me a lot but also solved my technical problems with patience, I succeeded in completing my courses and delivering my demo reel beyond my satisfaction.
How do you use the education you got at Seneca in your job today?
As the VFT program offers courses basically every field in the VFX industry, not only was I knowledgeable in just my department, but also in the departments with which I interacted. Knowing how to collaborate with artists in different departments is crucial while working in this industry. I am happy that I gained such knowledge in this program that helps me to adapt to the professional working environment very quickly.
What advice would you give potential students who are thinking of taking the course?
This program is perfect for people who are willing to enjoy the compact and busy life in Seneca. Taking every chance to ask questions to the mentors and being creative to every task will be the key to be successful in this program.
